Akwa Ibom Police Arrest 70-Year-Old Man and Three Accomplices for Attempted Murder and Cultism


The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has recorded a significant breakthrough in its fight against violent crime with the arrest of four suspects in Uruk Anam Local Government Area. 


Among those apprehended is a 70-year-old man, Okon Akpan, who is allegedly linked to a case of attempted murder and malicious damage.

Acting on a petition and credible intelligence, detectives raided Ikot Asukpong Village on March 20, 2026. 


Alongside the septuagenarian, the police arrested John Samson (45), Emmanuel Asuquo (50), and Idorenyin Umoh (22). 


During the operation, security operatives recovered one locally fabricated pistol and two long guns.


“The arrest follows the approval of a petition bordering on alleged attempted murder, malicious damage, and cult-related activities,” stated Command PRO, DSP Timfon John.


The police spokesperson assured residents that proactive measures have been implemented to prevent any breach of peace in the community.

Investigations are currently ongoing to track down other members of the criminal network, and the suspects are expected to be charged in court immediately upon the conclusion of the probe.
