Nigerian songstress Yemi Alade has made candid revelations about her early career, including claiming to be 22 years old for three consecutive years due to being intensely focused on her work and isolated from the industry.
The “Johnny” hitmaker explained that upon entering the music scene, she found her colleagues unfriendly, which led her to retreat into herself and her team. “I soon found out that my colleagues don’t seem to be friendly and I decided to be by myself and focus on my music,” she said.
This deep immersion in her craft caused her to lose track of time. “I was so consumed in my music and work that I didn’t realise time was fast going and I was quick to tell everyone I was 22 when I was actually 25.”
Alade also admitted to being highly selective about her social engagements, stating she doesn’t attend events or parties where she’s not invited because she “doesn’t even have so many friends.”
In another surprising revelation, the singer opened up about a brief period of cigarette addiction during her university days. She decided to quit after realizing the habit was negatively impacting her health and, crucially, her vocal performance.
