The family of 20-year-old AbdulBasit Muhammad is desperately seeking the public's help after he disappeared while trying to register for his JAMB examination in Lagos. The young man was last seen on Thursday, February 12, 2026, when he departed from his uncle's residence in Igbede to complete his UTME registration in the Ajangbadi area.
His disappearance has taken a sinister turn, with his uncle, Taiwo Adesina, revealing that he received calls from unknown persons demanding money for AbdulBasit’s release. Speaking on behalf of the distraught family, Adesina recounted the agonizing experience. "He left home around 8 a.m. for his JAMB capturing in Ajangbadi. I waited from 9 p.m. till late, but he never returned. This has never happened before, so I immediately reported to the police," he explained.
Adesina further disclosed the communication he received regarding his nephew. "Before reporting, some people called demanding N40,000 for his release. I told them I only had N20,000 and sent it. Since then, their numbers have not been reachable. I informed the police about everything." He described AbdulBasit as a quiet and reserved young man who rarely socialized, noting that he was wearing a polo shirt and shorts with a bag across his shoulder when he left.
The matter was reported at the Ajangbadi Police Division on Friday, February 13, but the family is yet to receive any substantial update from the authorities. Efforts by our correspondent to reach the Lagos State Police Command's spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
