Tragedy: Four Gospel Artistes Found Dead Inside Lagos Music Studio After Overnight Stay

Four gospel artistes found dead Lagos music studio Ajah Matthew Ogundele

Four gospel musicians, including a popular blogger, have been found dead inside a music studio in the Abraham Adesanya area of Ajah, Lagos State, in a tragic and mysterious incident.

The victims are Matthew Ogundele, Itunu Ogundele, Joseph Sanya, and blogger Matthew Awosanya, popularly known as JoesTv. They were invited to minister on Tuesday during a three-day birthday praise programme organized by fellow gospel artiste Olanireti Akinbola.

According to a police source, the programme ran late into the night, and due to the hour, the artistes decided to spend the night in the studio. They were discovered lifeless the following morning.

“The convener organised a three-day birthday praise which began on Monday... The programme lasted late, so they decided to sleep over in the studio. It was the next morning that information filtered in that their lifeless bodies had been found,” the source disclosed.

Christian blog Omojesu reported that the victims opted to stay overnight because of the distance to their homes. Images circulating online show traces of blood around the victims' noses, mouths, and ears, sparking public concern and speculation.

Confirming the incident, Lagos Police Public Relations Officer SP Abimbola Adebisi stated that the studio owner, Akintayo Akinbola (husband of the celebrant), reported the case on Wednesday. Akinbola told police he left the artistes in his studio at the HFP Shopping Complex on Tuesday night after buying them food as they prepared for a concert.

“He stated that the artistes returned to the studio with the food while he went home. However, at about 11 a.m. on Wednesday, he returned and discovered that the studio door was locked from the inside,” Adebisi said. After forcing the door open, the four lifeless bodies were found.

Police detectives visited the scene and noted no visible signs of violence on the bodies. The corpses were taken to Mainland Hospital, Yaba, where a doctor confirmed them dead. They have been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, for a comprehensive investigation to determine the exact cause of death. Colleagues and friends of the deceased have taken to social media to demand justice.
