Davido Withdraws from Custody Case, Alleges Opposing Lawyer Mentioned Late Son

Davido withdraws custody case daughter Imade late son mentioned court

Afrobeats superstar Davido has announced his withdrawal from the ongoing custody battle over his daughter, Imade, citing deep distress over what he described as a "lowest blow" during court proceedings—the mention of his late son.

In a series of emotional posts on X (formerly Twitter) late Friday, the singer clarified that contrary to widespread speculation, he never sought sole custody of his daughter. His intention, he explained, was simply to secure joint custody with Imade's mother.

"I never asked for full custody… I asked for joint custody. Nobody won, nobody lost but Imade… so I don't know why some pple r celebrating. There's nothing to celebrate," Davido wrote.

The 'Unavailable' crooner revealed that he made the difficult decision to drop the case following an incident in the courtroom that he found unacceptable. According to his account, the opposing legal counsel made references to his late son, Ifeanyi, who tragically passed away in 2022.

"I've decided to drop the case because… until she brought out her last card! MY DECEASED SON! THAT'S A NO NO! Lowest blow!" he stated emphatically.

Davido further took to his Instagram story to criticize the opposing legal team's conduct during proceedings. "I disgraced you in the courtroom… I was teaching you your work… and then went on to mention my son. Like I said in the courtroom, I pray you never go through what me and my wife have gone through ever," he wrote.

The singer's reaction followed posts by Lagos-based legal practitioner Maruf Muhammed, who had drawn attention to the tense atmosphere at the Lagos State High Court in Yaba. "Davido in High Court, Yaba now! Come and see drama in court. The lawyer made 001 lose his patience during cross-examination o! Be you never so high, the law is above you," Muhammed had posted.

When queried by another user, it was confirmed that the matter before the court related to custody arrangements for Davido's daughter, Imade.

Despite the legal drama, the singer emphasized that his actions throughout the process were driven by love and responsibility toward his daughter. He expressed confidence that his efforts would not go unnoticed in the future.

"My daughter will grow up knowing I fought for her… let's move on. One love!" he wrote.

The development comes shortly after Imade was spotted spending quality time with her father following her triumph at a talent competition—a moment that had delighted fans and highlighted the shared commitment of both parents to her well-being.

As the long-standing custody clash between Davido and his daughter's mother continues to generate public interest, fans and well-wishers have taken to social media to urge peaceful co-parenting for the sake of the child.
