Organisers of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) have explained the reasons behind the appointment of popular Nigerian rapper and actor FalzTheBahdGuy and French-Senegalese actress and media personality Liliane Maroune as hosts of the 9th edition of the prestigious awards ceremony.
AFRIMA, organised in partnership with the African Union Commission and the Lagos State Government, will take place from January 7 to 11, 2026, in Lagos. The event is expected to attract top music stars, industry leaders and fans from across Africa and the Diaspora.
The announcement was made by AFRIMA organisers.
With his selection, Falz becomes the second Nigerian to host AFRIMA, following music legend 2Baba, who co-hosted the inaugural edition in 2014. Over the years, AFRIMA has featured several high-profile hosts from across the continent, including Akon, Bonang Matheba, Pearl Thusi, Michael Blackson, Anita Erskine and Eddie Kadi, among others.

Multiple award-winning Falz is widely regarded as one of Africa’s most influential entertainers. Known for his intelligent songwriting, energetic performances and socially conscious messages, the rapper has built a strong reputation both in music and film. His acting credits include New Money,
Brotherhood, 10 Days in Sun City and Chief Daddy, earning him praise for his versatility and depth.
Liliane Maroune, on the other hand, brings elegance, global appeal and a strong African identity to the AFRIMA stage. The actress and model, who has Lebanese and Mauritanian ancestry, is popular for her roles in West African television series such as Emprises and Coeurs Brisés. She also hosts the talk show Wakhtane Ak Lily, where she interviews leading African creatives.
Explaining the choice, Nde Ndifonka, AFRIMA Regional Director for Central Africa, said the duo perfectly represents the richness of African culture.
“FalzTheBahdGuy brings intelligence, strong ideas, and a powerful African voice that connects with both young and old audiences. Liliane embodies elegance, diversity, and the contemporary African woman with international influence,” Ndifonka said.
The five-day event will feature several activities, including a Welcome Soirée on January 7, the Africa Music Business Summit on January 8, AFRIMA Music Village on January 9, and the Nominees & Industry Party on January 10. The main awards ceremony will hold on Sunday, January 11, at Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos, and will be broadcast live worldwide.
Organisers have also urged fans to continue voting for their favourite artistes across 39 award categories on the official AFRIMA website.
