A devastating fire outbreak in the early hours of Wednesday destroyed 24 electronics shops. in a storey building located beside the Ikotun Roundabout area of Lagos State, causing losses estimated at millions of naira.
The incident occurred shortly after midnight, sending panic through the commercial area as traders watched their goods consumed by flames. The development was confirmed by Punch.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Thursday by its Controller General, Margret Adeseye. According to the statement, the agency received a distress call at about 12:22 a.m., and firefighters arrived at the scene approximately ten minutes later.
“It is a fire involving a storey building shopping complex consisting of 24 shops of varying sizes. The affected shops and their contents were severely damaged by fire,” the statement read.

Adeseye explained that firefighting teams deployed specialised equipment to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby buildings.
“One class A foam branch from Fire Eagle C12 was deployed, supported with water from fire trucks from Isolo and Ijegun,” she stated.
Police officers from the Ikotun Division were also present at the scene to maintain order and secure the area while firefighting operations were ongoing. The fire service confirmed that the blaze was successfully extinguished and brought under control, with no casualties recorded.
Preliminary findings by the fire service indicated that the suspected cause of the incident was an electrical surge resulting from negligence.
The Ikotun fire incident occurred barely 72 hours after another fire outbreak gutted parts of Arena Market in the Bolade area of Oshodi. Emergency responders were also still attending to a separate fire incident at the Great Nigeria Insurance Plaza, which was affected by fire on December 24.
The repeated fire outbreaks have raised concerns among traders and residents, with calls for stricter enforcement of safety standards and improved electrical inspections in commercial areas across Lagos State.
