One of the pupils rescued in Niger State, Florence Michael, has shared what they went through while in captivity. She said the kidnappers kept them in a bush close to a river and warned them not to make any noise.
Florence spoke on Monday during the handover of the 100 rescued schoolchildren to the Niger State Government. The event was led by the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, who was represented by Wing Commander Abdullahi Idi Hong.
According to a report by Daily Trust on Tuesday 9 December, 2025, the schoolchildren were abducted on November 21 from St. Mary’s Primary and Secondary School, Papiri, in Agwara Local Government Area.
Florence explained that the captors gave them a trampoline to lie on and threatened to beat them if they talked. She appealed to the government to keep protecting children so they can attend school safely.

Speaking at the event, the NSA said the children were rescued through joint efforts by the Office of the National Security Adviser, the DSS, the Armed Forces, and other security agencies. He said the federal government is putting in place immediate security measures in high-risk areas while working with state governments and community leaders to create long-term safety solutions.
The Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, said the rescue brought great relief to parents and the entire state. He thanked President Bola Tinubu, security agencies, and everyone who supported the rescue efforts. He assured that the remaining children still in captivity would also be rescued soon.
The rescued pupils will be reunited with their families after undergoing medical checks.
The state government has promised to continue working with security agencies to keep schools safe for all children.
