
Police in Ondo State have arrested a man identified as Godspower Cletus after he was caught trying to withdraw a N1 million ransom at a POS kiosk. The money was allegedly collected from the husband of a woman he had earlier attacked in their home at Odudu community, Akure.
According to Daily Post on Wednesday 10 December, 2025, the suspect went to the woman’s house, robbed her, and took away her Android phone and ATM card. He was also said to have forced the woman to call her husband, demanding N5 million or he would harm her. Out of fear for his wife’s safety, the husband transferred N1 million into her Opay account.

After receiving the alert, the suspect reportedly left the scene, thinking he had escaped unnoticed. But detectives from the Anti-Kidnapping Squad began tracking him through intelligence gathered during the investigation.
The police later traced him to a POS operator’s stand where he attempted to withdraw the ransom. He was arrested on the spot and taken into custody for questioning.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Ondo State, Ayanlade Olayinka, confirmed the arrest. He said the suspect confessed to the incident during interrogation, and further investigations are ongoing to find out if he has links to other criminal activities in the state.
The police command commended the efforts of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad and assured the public that they remain committed to tackling crime and protecting residents across the state.
The police urged residents to stay alert and report suspicious activities to help prevent similar incidents.
