
Gunmen attacked motorists in the Amala area of Ngor-Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State, killing a driver and kidnapping several passengers. The incident happened around 5:50pm on December 7.
According to Punch News on Tuesday 9 December, 2025, the attackers were said to have come out from a bush path before opening fire on a Toyota Highlander with plate number SMK 514 BD. The driver was hit during the attack. The gunmen also abducted the occupants of another vehicle, a Lexus RS300 marked FSD 334 XA.
The police spokesperson in Imo State, Henry Okoye, said officers from the Ngor-Okpala Division moved to the scene immediately after receiving a distress call. He explained that the area was secured and the injured driver was rushed to the hospital, where he was later confirmed dead.
Okoye also stated that the Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, had ordered a major operation to track down the attackers. He said police teams, other security agencies and local vigilantes had already started bush-combing around the Amala forest area and neighbouring villages. He added that early investigations were already giving useful leads.
The police command assured residents that all necessary resources were being deployed to rescue the kidnapped victims and prevent further incidents. Members of the public were encouraged to provide useful information to assist the ongoing operation.
