No fewer than 42 Nigerians have been deported from Ghana’s Ashanti Region following various court rulings over alleged involvement in prostitution, fraud, and other related criminal activities.
The development was disclosed by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Frank Amoakohene, in a Facebook post on Thursday, December 18, 2025. According to the minister, the deportation exercise affected a total of 68 African nationals from different countries.
Amoakohene stated that aside from Nigerians, other foreign nationals deported include 13 Cameroonians, three Ivorians, three Burkinabe nationals, and seven Benin nationals. He explained that the deportations followed legal proceedings and court judgments involving offences such as prostitution, fraud, and activities linked to the controversial Q-Net operations.
“A total of 42 Nigerians, 13 Cameroonians, three Ivorians, three Burkinabe nationals, and seven Benin nationals have been deported from the Ashanti Region to their respective countries following various court rulings involving Q-Net, prostitution, and other criminal activities,” Amoakohene wrote.
The regional minister commended the Ghana Immigration Service for carrying out the exercise with professionalism while respecting due process and human dignity.
“I commend the Ghana Immigration Service for its diligence, professionalism, and firm commitment to enforcing our immigration laws, while upholding human dignity,” he added.
Amoakohene noted that the coordinated efforts between immigration authorities, courts, and other security agencies have contributed significantly to public safety and the protection of vulnerable persons within the region.
The deportation of the Nigerians comes amid growing concerns over increased scrutiny, arrests, and deportations of Nigerian nationals in parts of Africa and beyond. In recent years, Ghanaian authorities have intensified operations targeting illegal activities involving foreign nationals, particularly in areas associated with fraud and sex-related crimes.
While the Nigerian government has yet to issue an official response to the latest deportations, the development has sparked conversations about cross-border crime, migration, and the need for stronger diplomatic engagement and public awareness among Nigerians abroad.
