
An elderly farmer has been abducted after armed men attacked Kururawa, a border community in the Lakwaya district of Gwarzo Local Government Area, Kano State. The attack took place on Sunday night and caused panic among residents who say the area has been peaceful for a long time.
According to Vanguard News on Tuesday, 8 December 2025, a resident who spoke to Vanguard on condition of anonymity said the attackers rode into the community on two motorcycles. They were said to have come from the Katsina axis before entering the village. The source explained that the armed men went straight to the house of the victim, identified as Yakubu Tsohuwa.
The witness said the men overpowered the household and took the elderly farmer away. His eldest son, Badamasi, was injured while trying to stop them. He is currently receiving medical treatment.

The resident added that Lakwaya community shares a border with Malumfashi and Musawa Local Government Areas of Katsina State, which makes the area vulnerable. He appealed to the Kano State Government to create a security base around the border communities to prevent future incidents.
The abduction has left the community worried, as this is the first major incident reported in the area after a long period of calm.
As of the time of filing this report, the Kano State Police Command has not released an official statement regarding the incident.
The community is hoping for quick action from security agencies as efforts to locate the abducted farmer continue.
