The Lagos State Police Command has arrested two security guards in connection with the brutal lynching of a site engineer, Solomon Ode, who was mistakenly accused of theft and beaten to death at the prestigious Eko Atlantic City construction site.
According to a PUNCH Metro report, the tragic incident occurred on the evening of Friday, October 31. A police source revealed that the guards were initially chasing suspected thieves who had attempted to steal iron rods from the site. In a case of mistaken identity, they later sighted Ode in the vicinity and wrongfully labelled him as one of the culprits.

“Some security guards were chasing some suspected thieves... Ode was later sighted in the area and accused of being one of the thieves. He kept pleading that he wasn’t among them, but they refused to listen. They beat him until he died and left his body by the riverbank,” the police source stated.
A more detailed account emerged from a Facebook post by John Ona, who quoted the deceased's roommate, Simon Odigri. According to this narrative, the guards allegedly beat Solomon severely with cutlasses and other weapons, insisting he confess to a crime he did not commit. The guards later claimed that Ode jumped into a river while being taken across a bridge and drowned while trying to escape. However, Ona questioned this version of events, stating, “Solomon had already been beaten and was weak; how could he swim in a deep river?”
The victim's remains were eventually discovered by scavengers, found floating by the riverbank. The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the incident and the subsequent arrests. “The incident happened, and two security guards have been arrested and taken into custody at the SCID for questioning... Investigation is ongoing,” Adebisi said. This case adds to the alarming number of jungle justice and mob action fatalities recorded across Nigeria.
