The fire service provided heartbreaking details of the casualties, confirming that five occupants were trapped inside the burning building. The victims included the 43-year-old father, Shodandi; his 30-year-old wife, Rafi’a; and their two young daughters—three-year-old Mardiya and one-and-a-half-year-old Yusira. All four were tragically burnt to death before help could reach them.

Amidst the tragedy, there was a single survivor. The agency noted that a 12-year-old boy, identified as Aminu Shodandi, was successfully rescued from the inferno by the responding firefighters.

The Fire Service expressed its profound condolences to the bereaved family and issued a stern warning to residents. The statement urged heightened caution in the handling of fire-related materials, especially during the dry and windy harmattan season which increases fire risks.

A preliminary investigation into the cause of the fire pointed to a common household item. The statement revealed that the inferno was allegedly triggered by a mosquito coil the family had lit before going to sleep.
