The issue occurred shortly after the release of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results on Monday, August 4. Many candidates attempting to access their scores encountered difficulties, sparking concern among stakeholders.

In a statement on Wednesday, WAEC assured the public that the downtime had been addressed and the portal was fully functional again. An independent survey by Veracity Desk revealed that most respondents praised WAEC’s prompt crisis management, transparency, and stakeholder communication.

Pastor Temitayo Olowookere, a parent in Lagos, said, “We got timely information about the downtime, which saved us from wasting time and money online. WAEC showed professionalism.”

Civil society representative Ibrahim Isa from Taraba State also applauded the exam body’s response: “Technical glitches happen everywhere, but how you manage them and communicate with affected parties is what matters most.”

Candidates themselves expressed relief and appreciation. Abuja-based student Amarachi Nnamdi said she initially felt frustrated but later commended WAEC’s openness about the situation. Similarly, Oghenetega Tadafe from Agbor admitted to being angry at first but changed her stance after reading WAEC’s public apology and explanation.

Industry watchers believe WAEC’s quick handling of the glitch sets a new benchmark for integrity and accountability in Nigeria’s education sector.
