According to Punch, the incident occurred on Okereke Street in Mile 1, Diobu. Eyewitnesses revealed that an argument broke out after the suspect accused Ima of being unfaithful. The quarrel escalated into violence when the man reportedly grabbed a knife and stabbed her multiple times, leading to her tragic death.

One resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described the scene:

“There was a crowd in the compound because of what happened. The caretaker immediately rushed to Azikiwe Police Division to report the matter, and the man was arrested.”

On Monday morning, sympathizers and shocked onlookers gathered outside the police station after the victim’s body was taken there. Police later transferred her remains to an undisclosed mortuary.

Confirming the development, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, said the suspect is in custody and the case has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) in Port Harcourt for further probe.

Iringe-Koko added:

“As we speak, the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to SCIID for discreet investigation.”

The killing has sparked outrage in the community, with many condemning the rising cases of domestic violence in Rivers State. Human rights advocates have once again called for stronger measures to curb intimate partner violence and ensure justice for victims.

This incident adds to a growing number of violent crimes linked to jealousy and accusations of infidelity, highlighting the need for more proactive awareness and intervention programs across Nigeria.
