A dramatic car theft incident unfolded in Lagos as a car wash attendant fled with a customer’s vehicle but was later apprehended in Ogun State. The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the arrest in a statement released on Thursday by its spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin.
According to Hundeyin, detectives from the Alausa Police Division launched an intensive manhunt after receiving a report that the suspect absconded with a vehicle entrusted to him at a car wash facility in Alausa, Ikeja. After days of tracking, the suspect was eventually arrested in Sagamu, Ogun State, and the stolen car was recovered intact.
Hundeyin issued a stern warning to vehicle owners, urging them to exercise extra caution when leaving their cars at car wash centers or with strangers. In a post on his official handle, he wrote:

In a related development, the Lagos Police Command announced the arrest of a five-man car-snatching syndicate operating within the state. Hundeyin revealed that operatives of the Ilasan Police Division apprehended the suspects following a report by a taxi driver, who was attacked on August 1 by three men during a trip along Platinum Way, Jakande, Lekki.
According to the police, the suspects ordered a ride, boarded the victim’s black Toyota Corolla, and during the journey, one of them pulled a locally-made pistol and forced the driver out before fleeing with the car. Intelligence-led investigations led to the arrest of the suspects, identified as Favour Sunday (25), Ikot Moses (28), Dickson Ighobue Harrison (35), Joshua Adedamola (27), and Daniel Jonathan (26).
Further findings revealed that the stolen vehicle was sold for ₦500,000 to one Wasiu Arinola, 40, who dismantled it and sold the parts in Ibadan. Efforts are ongoing to recover the pistol used in the robbery, trace other stolen vehicles, and prosecute all suspects.
Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, assured Lagos residents of the command’s commitment to safety while urging the public to provide timely information to security agencies.
