Shock in Enugu as Nursing Mother Allegedly K!lls Her Two Children Inside Family Home

A tragic and disturbing incident has rocked the Trans Ekulu area of Enugu State, as a woman identified as Chidinma Arinze allegedly m!rdered her two children — a four-year-old girl and a three-month-old infant — in what police have called one of the most shocking domestic crimes in recent years.

According to security expert Zagazola Makama, the incident occurred on Monday, July 21, 2025, at the family’s residence on Unity Road, Trans Ekulu. Police sources confirmed that they received a distress call around 9:00 a.m. and immediately dispatched officers to the scene.

Upon arrival, the lifeless bodies of Esther Arinze, 4, and her baby brother Chibusoma, 3 months old, were found with visible injuries, reportedly inflicted with a sharp object. The scene was promptly secured, forensic photos taken, and the suspect — their mother — arrested without resistance.

The bodies were evacuated to the Enugu State University Teaching Hospital (ESUT), where a medical officer confirmed them dead. The remains have been deposited in the morgue for further autopsy.

Preliminary investigations are underway at the Trans Ekulu Division, and the case will soon be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for deeper analysis.

Although the motive remains unclear, early speculation suggests the mother may have suffered a postpartum mental health crisis. Neighbours described her as quiet and withdrawn, with no prior signs of violent behavior.

“This is something we’ve never seen in our area,” said one shocked resident. “Everyone is devastated.”

The Enugu State Police Command released a statement assuring the public of a full and transparent investigation.

“We’re exploring all angles, including the psychological state of the suspect,” said a senior officer.

The incident has left the Trans Ekulu community in mourning, as families and residents grapple with the horror that occurred behind closed doors in a seemingly normal home.
