Nigerian military forces have eliminated a notorious terrorist leader known as Auta along with at least 14 of his associates in a decisive operation in Zamfara State.

The offensive, conducted under Operation Fasan Yamma, took place on June 10, 2025 around Kunchin Kalgo town in Tsafe Local Government Area, dismantling a dangerous network responsible for multiple violent attacks.
In a statement by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj Gen Markus Kangye, troops of the Mobile Strike Team “successfully killed a group of terrorists during a decisive offensive operation around Kunchin Kalgo town in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State on 10 June 2025.”
According to the statement, Auta and close aides Abdul Jamilu and Salisu were among those neutralized. Preliminary intelligence indicates that two additional terrorist kingpins, including one identified as Babayé, were also eliminated.
Maj Gen Kangye described the elimination of Auta’s cell as a “critical disruption of terrorist networks.” The operation is expected to significantly weaken local insurgent capacity, as Auta’s faction had been linked to kidnappings, raids, and other terror activities destabilizing the North-West region.

In a related engagement, troops also killed Sale Ado Madele (alias Sarki), eldest son of bandit leader Ado Alieru, further undermining criminal syndicates in Zamfara and neighbouring states.
Furthermore, the military reported a separate clash near a filling station in Danjibga where ten armed terrorists, allegedly mobilized by bandit commander Dogo Sule for a planned attack, were neutralized.
These coordinated operations underscore the Armed Forces’ commitment to restoring peace and security in Zamfara State.
The Commissioner of Defence Media Operations emphasized that these successes result from precise intelligence gathering, community cooperation, and sustained pressure on insurgent groups. Local residents have been urged to continue sharing information on suspicious movements to aid ongoing efforts.
Analysts say the removal of key figures like Auta and Sarki is likely to cause short-term disruptions to terrorist operations, though sustaining security gains will require continuous operations and community engagement.
