Residents of Ilishan-Remo in Ogun State were horrified when they discovered the body of an unidentified naked man hanging from a tree on Saturday, June 7, 2025.

The gruesome scene unfolded in an undeveloped parcel of land near the New Market area, prompting alarm and swift police involvement.

According to PUNCH Metro, eyewitnesses alerted authorities after stumbling upon the man dangling by a rope tied to his neck and the tree. 

Community leaders and local health officials also converged on the scene. “On Saturday, June 7, 2025, residents of Ilishan discovered a body hanging on a tree in an undeveloped plot of land in the New Market area, and they alerted the police to the scene of the incident,” a source told PUNCH Metro.

Law enforcement operatives, led by Ogun State Police Command personnel, recovered the body alongside community representatives and health officials.

    A senior police officer, speaking on condition of anonymity due to lack of press authorization, confirmed that the details have been forwarded to the state command headquarters for further investigation. The identity of the deceased remains unknown as of publication time.

    The spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, had not responded to inquiries when this report was filed. 

    Authorities are exploring all angles, including suicide and foul play, but initial indications point to a possible suicide based on the manner of hanging. 

    Investigators are canvassing the area for CCTV footage, interviewing residents, and checking missing-person reports to establish the man’s identity and motive.

    Similar incidents have been reported in the past: in April 2018, a half-naked man was found hanging from a tree near EFAB Estate, Lokogoma, Abuja, believed to be a suicide. Such findings underscore the need for community vigilance and mental health awareness. 

    Ogun State residents are urged to report any suspicious behavior or missing persons to the police promptly.
