EFCC Arrests Two Men in Kano Over Alleged Possession of $899,800 in Fake Dollars
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has launched an investigation into two suspects arrested with $899,800 in counterfeit U.S. currency in Kano State.
According to the Kano Zonal Directorate of the EFCC, the suspects—Abubakar Hussaini (42) and Sahabi Adamu (53)—were first intercepted by NDLEA operatives along Maiduguri Road in Wudil while traveling in a commercial Golf 3 Station Wagon.
During a routine check, NDLEA officers discovered the large cache of fake dollar bills concealed inside a Maggi Star seasoning carton. The duo were reportedly en route to Kila Village in Gwaram LGA of Jigawa State when they were arrested. Both the suspects and the suspected counterfeit currency were subsequently transferred to the EFCC for further investigation.
Preliminary EFCC findings reveal the fake money was being transported to meet one Muhammad Walo, who allegedly planned to introduce them to Mallam Mashiru, a self-proclaimed spiritualist. Mashiru is believed to have claimed he could “convert fake dollars into genuine currency through ritual prayers.”
