The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has once again come under national spotlight, stirring online conversations and massive portal traffic. But why exactly is the JAMB portal trending?
The answer lies in a combination of released and withheld results, identity fraud scandals, and controversial accusations involving UTME candidates. Recently, JAMB officially released the results of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), but shockingly withheld 39,834 results over concerns of malpractices. This triggered a wave of anxiety and curiosity as candidates and their families flooded the portal to check their status.
Further intensifying the issue, JAMB revealed that over 244 cases of impersonation and biometric identity fraud were uncovered, with many connected to what’s now termed “WhatsApp runs” – a network of fraudulent online tutorial platforms that provided candidates with leaked materials and fake login credentials. According to JAMB, these platforms manipulated biometrics and engaged in sophisticated cheating techniques, involving candidates paying to swap identities during registration and exams.
However, not all candidates are taking the blame quietly. Some of them, as reported by Punch, are pushing back against what they describe as wrongful accusations, claiming JAMB is punishing innocent students due to systemic failure and lack of proper oversight.
With the future of thousands hanging in the balance and widespread public concern over examination integrity, the JAMB portal has become a digital battlefield for truth, justice, and accountability. Until these investigations are resolved and withheld results are cleared, it is clear that the JAMB portal will remain a focal point for trending debates, social media outrage, and desperate students seeking answers.
