President Bola Tinubu has returned to Abuja after attending the historic inauguration of Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican in Rome.
Tinubu arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Tuesday evening, where he was welcomed by top government officials, including FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, SGF George Akume, and APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje.
The President described his trip as significant, being the first Nigerian leader to witness the installation of a new Pope. During his visit, Tinubu met with the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), urging unity and national development.
“If we use our diversity not for adversity but for prosperity, the country’s hope is stability and progress,” Tinubu, a Muslim, stated.
The delegation included prominent Catholic bishops such as Archbishop Lucius Ugorji (Owerri), Archbishop Ignatius Kaigama (Abuja), and Bishop Matthew Kukah (Sokoto). Ugorji thanked Tinubu for facilitating their Vatican trip, saying it marked a stronger relationship between the presidency and Nigeria’s Catholic community.

The event strengthens Nigeria’s diplomatic ties with the Holy See, with Tinubu emphasizing interfaith cooperation for national progress.
