Tems Reveals Why She Quit Digital Marketing for Music – ‘It Was Life or Death Decision

Tems explains why she quit digital marketing for music career

Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Tems has opened up about her bold decision to quit her digital marketing job to pursue music, calling it a “life or death” choice. In a recent interview with Billboard, the ‘Love Me Jeje’ crooner explained that she felt spiritually compelled to leave her 9-5 career for music.

According to Tems, she waited six months after resigning before releasing her debut single, ‘Mr Rebel.’ She said, “I quit my job in January 2018 because it got to a point where I couldn’t take it anymore. Spiritually, I knew digital marketing wasn’t my path. It felt like, this can make or break your destiny.”

Her leap of faith paid off—after gaining global recognition on Wizkid’s ‘Essence,’ she became the first African artist to debut at No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with Future’s ‘Wait For U.’ She has since won two Grammys, including Best African Music Performance for ‘Love Me Jeje.’

Tems’ story continues to inspire many aspiring artists to follow their passion, no matter the risks.
