Rivers Court Remands 4 Suspects in Retired Teacher's Kidnap-Murder Case - 13 Years After Crime

Kidnap suspects arraigned in Port Harcourt court for teacher's murder

A Rivers State High Court has ordered the remand of four suspects - Emmanuel Eke, Ogechi Ogbogu ("United"), Charles Anayor ("Biggie"), and Nelson Isaiah - for the 2012 kidnapping and murder of retired headteacher Eugene Ndubuisi Orlu. Justice Augusta Kingsley-Chukwu issued the remand order at Port Harcourt Correctional Facility after the accused pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge.

The prosecution alleges the suspects conspired to abduct Orlu from Ubima community in Ikwerre LGA, collected N15 million ransom, then murdered and buried him in a forest. While these four face trial, other accomplices remain at large according to court documents.

Justice Kingsley-Chukwu adjourned the case to May 20 and 27, 2025 for accelerated hearing, with no bail applications submitted by the defense. The long-delayed case has drawn attention to Nigeria's challenges with resolving violent crimes years after commission.
