Peter Obi, former Anambra State governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, has revealed that he may not contest future elections beyond 2027.
Speaking in a viral video shared via the party’s WhatsApp platform, Obi stated that if he fails to win in 2027, he may step away from politics entirely.
In the video, Obi, who will be 65 by the next general elections, emphasized the need for a political retirement age, stating, “By 2027, I will be 65. If the presidency goes to the North in 2031, it might not return to the South until 2039, by which time I’ll be 77. I wouldn’t want to run at that age.”
According to Sunday PUNCH, the video is recent, confirmed by Obi's media aide, Umar Ibrahim. The politician also pointed fingers at the ruling party for instigating internal crises within the Labour Party and the PDP, claiming it is a deliberate strategy to destabilize the opposition.
