A fire outbreak on Saturday, May 24, 2025, destroyed property worth millions of naira at 45 Lane 2B, Agogbo Phase 2, Fola Tyre, in Oyo State.
The incident occurred when a plasma TV—plugged in but not in use—caught fire shortly after Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) restored power in the area.

Two rooms in the residential building were affected, and several valuable household items were lost to the inferno. The Oyo State Fire Service was alerted at 7:15 p.m., and officers, led by ACFS Tijani Bamidele, were quickly deployed to the scene.

According to a statement by Hon. Maroof Akinwande, Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, fire personnel successfully curtailed the flames, preventing the fire from spreading to other parts of the building.
“No casualties were recorded,” Akinwande confirmed, “and properties worth millions of naira were saved due to the quick response of our team.”

Authorities have reiterated warnings about the dangers of leaving appliances plugged in while not in use, especially during power restoration surges. Residents are urged to adopt fire safety precautions to prevent similar incidents in the future.
