Ondo APC Ward Chairman Killed by Kidnappers After Failed Ransom Deal

Ondo APC chairman Nelson Adepoyigi killed by kidnappers after ransom failed

Tragedy struck in Ondo State as Mr. Nelson Adepoyigi, the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairman for Ward 5 in Ose Local Government Area, was confirmed dead after being abducted by armed men.

Adepoyigi was kidnapped on Monday at the entrance of his farm along the Ifon-Owo Road in Ifon, the LGA headquarters. His captors demanded a ransom of N100 million, but the family was only able to raise N5 million.

According to reports, the kidnappers detained two men who delivered the ransom, expressing dissatisfaction with the amount. They later demanded an additional N30 million for the release of all three captives. Unfortunately, the kidnappers reportedly killed Adepoyigi and released the other two men on Friday.

Chairman of Ose LGA, Mr. Clement Ojo, confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday, describing it as a painful loss to the party and the local community.

“While we’re grateful the two volunteers are safe, the brutal killing of Mr. Nelson Adepoyigi is deeply saddening,” Ojo said. He praised the late chairman’s dedication to grassroots politics and mourned the rising wave of insecurity in the region.

Ojo added that recent attempts to abduct other residents highlight the growing threat to lives in the area.

All attempts to reach the Ondo Police PRO, Mr. Olayinka Ayanlade, were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
