The incident began when Amotekun operatives arrested a suspect linked to a stolen motorcycle. However, police officers arrived shortly after, demanding the suspect’s handover. A heated argument escalated into gunshots, with several officers reportedly injured.

The Ondo Police Command, in a statement by SP Ayanlade Olayinka, denied an actual gunfight, claiming Amotekun personnel fired sporadically after the suspect was released. Police responded with tear gas to disperse the crowd.

Amotekun operatives insisted they lawfully arrested the suspect, while police accused them of acting "commando-style" with a mob of okada riders. The Commissioner of Police intervened, ensuring the suspect was returned to police custody.

Efforts to reach Amotekun Commander Adetunji Adeleye for comments were unsuccessful. The police reiterated their commitment to inter-agency cooperation but warned against unprofessional conduct.

Residents expressed fear over the security agencies’ rivalry, calling for better coordination to prevent future clashes.
