Following the recent Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) resit, over 200,000 candidates have now scored above 200 marks, a notable improvement from the initial results released by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
According to a report by The PUNCH, JAMB released the resit results on Sunday after investigating widespread complaints of technical and human errors. These issues had led to poor performance among the 1.9 million candidates who sat the original exam, with over 1.5 million scoring below 200.

As a corrective measure, the Board organized a resit for 379,000 affected candidates in Lagos and the South-East. The latest data shows a significant rise in the number of candidates who surpassed the 200 threshold—from approximately 365,000 to over 565,000. This marks a considerable recovery in performance.
JAMB’s Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, attributed the errors to server failures and confirmed that affected candidates' new results reflect better performance and system integrity. The Board also revealed that 1,931,467 UTME results were released in total, up from 1.84 million in 2024.

Despite the improvements, 70.7% of candidates (1,365,479) still scored below 200. However, there has been a positive trend in the number of high scorers, suggesting better adaptation to the Computer-Based Test (CBT) format introduced in 2013.

The Board is expected to issue further guidelines regarding how these results will influence the 2025 tertiary admission process.
