They Made Her Suffer Unimaginable Pain - Now Justice Has Finally Been Served!
A Kebbi State High Court has delivered a landmark judgment, sentencing Murtala Abdullahi and Abdullahi Abdullahi to life imprisonment for the brutal rape of a 14-year-old girl.
The Gender-Based Violence Special Court in Birnin Kebbi found the men guilty on four counts including rape, criminal conspiracy, and intimidation.
Justice Sham Sudden Jafar upheld the prosecution's case which included:
• The victim's harrowing testimony of being raped sequentially by both men
• Medical evidence showing a torn hymen and physical bruises
• The assailants' initial confessions (later retracted)
• Threat with a cutlass during the assault
"The prosecution has proven its case beyond reasonable doubt," Justice Jafar declared. The court also imposed a ₦250,000 fine for additional offenses, with a one-year prison alternative.
Key case details:
• Case prosecuted by Kebbi State Ministry of Justice's Deputy Director
• Defense lawyers unsuccessfully challenged the confessional statements
• Both defendants admitted being present at the crime scene
• Arrest made immediately after the incident
This judgment comes under Kebbi State's 2021 Penal Code which has strengthened punishments for gender-based violence. Women's rights advocates have hailed the verdict as a victory for justice, while calling for more protection for minors across Nigeria.
