In a harrowing case of domestic violence, Olubunmi Johnson has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly setting his wife, Kikelomo Johnson, on fire during a domestic dispute on October 25, 2024.

The chilling incident took place in the Ota area of Ogun State, specifically on Fagbuyi Street, Ilogbo, around 8:30 p.m., when an argument between the couple escalated into violence.

Eyewitnesses report that following a heated confrontation, Olubunmi, in an uncontrollable fit of rage, doused his wife with petrol and set her on fire with a match.

Kikelomo, who sustained severe burns, was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital by concerned neighbors who witnessed the horrific scene.

According to the police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, law enforcement swiftly responded after receiving an emergency call, arresting the 55-year-old husband for attempted murder.

The police report also highlighted that Kikelomo had been in an abusive relationship with her husband for some time, though it is unclear what specifically triggered the tragic event. While undergoing treatment for her injuries, the victim is said to be in stable condition, though the emotional toll of the attack remains profound.

This incident follows a similar case of domestic violence reported earlier in October, where Motunrayo Olaniyi fatally stabbed his newlywed wife, Olajumoke, after a quarrel, before locking her in a room and setting the house on fire.

Domestic violence cases like these have raised alarming concerns about the safety of women in Nigeria and the need for stronger measures to protect victims.

The Ogun State Police have vowed to ensure justice for Kikelomo, while the public has called for more comprehensive efforts to curb domestic abuse and violence in the country.
