A 17-year-old girl, Hameedah Akinbode, who went missing on October 20, 2024, after leaving her home in the Baale Bus Stop area of Bariga, Lagos, has been found and safely returned to her family.

Her disappearance had sparked concern in the community and beyond, leading to widespread media coverage. The news of her return came as a relief to her mother, Rukayya Akinbode, who had shared her distress and desperation in the weeks following her daughter’s sudden disappearance.

According to reports, Hameedah had left home that fateful day, informing her family that she was going to visit a friend in Oshodi during an Islamic event. However, her whereabouts remained unknown for days, and no one could verify the friend she was visiting.

Her mother, after failing to trace her daughter’s steps, immediately filed a report at the Ifako Police Station, and the case was escalated to the Area F and Zone 2 Police Headquarters.

As the days turned into weeks, hopes of finding Hameedah seemed to fade. However, on Friday, November 2, 2024, at approximately 8 p.m., a miracle occurred: Hameedah returned home after being found unconscious in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, more than 400 kilometers away from Lagos.

Hameedah recounted that she had been abducted in Lagos, taken to Ilorin, and found unconscious. When she regained consciousness, a kind-hearted stranger helped her and placed her on a bus heading back to Lagos.

The teenager was immediately rushed to a local hospital for medical attention, and authorities are investigating her abduction.

This case has raised questions about the growing concern of human trafficking and abduction, as the family, friends, and authorities work to uncover what happened to Hameedah.
