Cissy Houston, the Grammy-winning gospel and soul singer, and mother of the late Whitney Houston, has passed away at the age of 91. 

Born Emily Drinkard, she had a prolific career, providing backup vocals for artists such as Elvis Presley, Aretha Franklin, and Dionne Warwick. 

As a soloist, she earned Grammys for her gospel albums "Face to Face" and "He Leadeth Me" in the late 1990s. 

Her daughter, Whitney Houston, became one of the best-selling U.S. musical artists of all time, with hits like "I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)" and "I Will Always Love You." 

Whitney Houston tragically passed away in 2012 at the age of 48.
