Arsenal center-back William Saliba believes that winning major titles is the only thing preventing him from being acknowledged as the world’s top defender.

The 23-year-old Frenchman has been a critical part of Arsenal’s success, but he feels that his lack of silverware is the main reason people haven’t fully recognized his talent.

Saliba has played 87 matches for the Gunners since his 2022-23 debut, contributing five goals and two assists across all competitions.

He played in every Premier League game last season and has become a key figure for the French national team, featuring in all six matches during Euro 2024.

Ahead of Arsenal’s UEFA Champions League opener against Atalanta, Saliba expressed his thoughts in an interview with Fox Sports:

“I think I’m one of the best defenders right now, but until I win some titles, I can’t claim to be the best. Winning makes people see how good you really are.”
