Qatar Airways has strengthened its presence in Africa by acquiring a 25% stake in South African carrier Airlink.

This strategic investment, announced on August 20, underscores Qatar Airways' commitment to expanding its operations across the African continent.

Airlink, a privately-owned airline, operates flights to over 45 destinations in southern and East Africa. The deal is expected to enhance the existing code-share agreement between the two airlines, offering passengers more connectivity options.

Qatar Airways CEO highlighted the significance of this investment, stating, "Our investment further demonstrates how integral we see Africa being to our business’ future."

This move aligns with Qatar Airways' broader strategy to deepen its footprint in the African aviation market. 

New cities such as Abidjan, Abuja, Accra, Harare, Luanda, and Lusaka are now part of Qatar Airways' extensive network, further solidifying its position in the region.
