Today, on Monday, January 8, 2024, the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, is launching the first-ever online portal for passport applications in Abuja.

The minister shared this exciting news during a demonstration session on Friday, where he showcased the online portal along with the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Caroline Adepoju.

Now, there's a new online platform for people from Nigeria and other countries to apply for passports. This is part of the government's plan to make the passport application process more efficient.

Back in December, the minister had mentioned that the Federal Government was working on automating the passport application system, and now it's finally happening. He mentioned that the new system is almost complete, with a 99% progress rate. The process will involve uploading passport photos and necessary documents.

For Nigerians applying for a 32-page passport with a validity of five years, the fee is set at N25,000. If you're looking for a 64-page passport with a validity of ten years, the cost is N70,000.

For international applicants, the fees are $130 for a 32-page passport with a five-year validity and $230 for a 64-page passport with a ten-year validity. All applications can be submitted at https://passport.immigration.gov.ng.

Notable figures present at the launch event included Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission; Stephen Matete, representative of the International Organization for Migration; Joe Abah, Country Manager for Development Alternatives Incorporated; Tijjani Musa, Founder of Kwandala Foundation; and David Afolayan, Co-founder of Technext.
