NDLEA Rescues Pregnant Teens and Apprehends Suspected Drug Traffickers

During a patrol operation along Aba-Owerri Expressway in Imo State, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) successfully rescued five pregnant teenage girls suspected to be victims of child trafficking and potential baby factory exploitation.

The teenagers were discovered while in the process of being relocated from their undisclosed location in the Naze area of Owerri to the Ikenegbu area of the state capital. NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, disclosed this significant rescue in a statement released on Sunday.

According to the statement, the teenage girls asserted that they had no knowledge of the men responsible for their pregnancies.

The rescued victims are identified as Chioma Emmanuel (15), Uma Faith (15), Divine Adimonye (17), Opara Gift (15), and Amarachi Mbata (16).

The NDLEA reported that the rescue operation took place on September 13, 2023. Subsequently, the Imo State Command of the agency has been instructed to transfer the girls to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further investigation.

This initiative by the NDLEA demonstrates their dedication to combatting child trafficking and related criminal activities, safeguarding the welfare of vulnerable young individuals.
