Sanwo-Olu commissions three new fire stations for improved service, better emergency response

Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has commissioned three newly constructed fire service stations and upgraded headquarters of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service in Ikeja.

He said the facilities were aimed at rebranding and repositioning the fire service for improved services.

At the physical unveiling of the Ebute Elefun Fire Station and Virtual Commissioning of both Oniru and Ajeromi Ifelodun Fire Stations,  Sanwo-Olu, urged residents to protect the facilities from vandals.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, Mobolaji Ogunlende, said the need for the new fire stations was conceived to overcome the challenge of distance and quicken the response time of service, while the rehabilitated ones would bring a new workplace experience to fire officers.

Appreciating the state government, the Oniru of Iruland, Oba Gbolahan Lawal, in whose honour, the Oniru fire station was named, urged that the gesture be replicated in all 20 Councils and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) to prevent loss of life and property during outbreak of fire.

In a goodwill message, the traditional ruler commended Sanwo-Olu’s administration for siting the fire station in Iru.

He said the facility will put an end to dependence by the people of Iruland on the Marina and Chevron fire stations during fire outbreaks.

Lawal urged corporate organisations within the environs to adopt the fire station as well as support the officers to ensure longevity of the Station and equipment.

The Council’s chairman,  Rashidat Adu, commended the Governor and  promised that as the closest arm of government to the grassroots, she and her team would take it upon themselves to educate the people, especially market men and women on fire preventive measures.

Present at the event were the Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, cabinet members, Director Lagos State Fire and Rescue service,  Margaret Adeseye, royal fathers, among others.
