Mystery fire destroys property worth millions of Naira in Anambra

Property worth millions of Naira were weekend destroyed when a 14-room building was gutted by fire at Saint Stephen’s Road, Inland Town, Onitsha, commercial city of Anambra State.

The bungalow building is said to be the property of one Njaka family of Ogbeabo village Onitsha.
A staff member of the Anambra Newspapers Printing Corporation, Mr. Okey Njaka, who spoke to journalists, said the incident took them unawares and that the cause of the inferno is yet to be ascertained.

According to him, none of their belongings could be salvaged from the mystery fire.
He said that there was power outage in the area when they heard someone shouting from within the building alerting them of fire outbreak.

Njaka added: “Before we knew it, the fire has engulfed the whole building. Unfortunately, our wives and children were not around to salvage the property.”
Their elder brother, Mr. Lawrence Njaka, commended the efforts of some youths who came to their rescue before the arrival of fire fighters an hour later.

Lamenting their loss, one of their sons, Mr. Chike Njaka, said they had been rendered homeless by the incident.
While regretting that the building was their only hope as they all live with their aged parents, he called on the state government and other good spirited individuals to come to their aid. News Express
