The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has confiscated and destroyed unwholesome, fake, expired, and banned consumer goods valued at over N8 billion across the North-Central geopolitical zone.
The public destruction ceremony took place on Thursday, October 29, 2026, in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital.
NAFDAC Director-General Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye—represented by Deputy Director Joseph Edor—disclosed that the confiscated items were seized from production plants, distribution centers, markets, and motor parks.
She highlighted that the bulk of the seized stockpile consisted of banned sachet alcoholic beverages and glass bottles below 200ml (20cl).
Prof. Adeyeye reiterated that NAFDAC banned low-volume sachet alcohol due to its low cost and high portability, which makes it easily accessible to minors and youths.
Research shows early exposure damages developing internal organs, causes cognitive issues, and lowers academic performance. Nasarawa State NAFDAC Coordinator Dr. Gyani Stephen and NDLEA State Commander Daniel Saidu praised the inter-agency collaboration, stressing that eliminating fake products directly saves millions of lives from permanent health damage.
"Research shows that early exposure to alcohol affects the brain and vital organs... This heap of banned products worth over eight billion naira was confiscated to protect public health." — Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, Director-General of NAFDAC
