Superstar forward Cristiano Ronaldo has expressed heartfelt gratitude to football fans across the globe after his iconic 2007–08 season with Manchester United was officially voted the greatest Ballon d’Or-winning campaign in football history.
Organized by France Football, the month-long public online poll saw millions of supporters vote to crown the ultimate individual season in footballing history.
Ronaldo’s historic 2007–08 campaign—during which he scored 42 goals in all competitions, leading Manchester United to a Premier League and UEFA Champions League double—finished in top spot ahead of Lionel Messi’s 2012 goal-scoring year, while Ronaldo’s 2017 Real Madrid campaign placed third.
Taking to social media to celebrate the honor, the 41-year-old Al Nassr forward dedicated the award to his global fanbase. Ronaldo, who holds five Ballon d'Or trophies and stands as the all-time leading international men's goalscorer with 143 goals in 225 caps for Portugal, continues to close in on the historic milestone of 1,000 career goals.
"Football belongs to the fans! Thank you to all the fans around the world, the Ballon D'Or of All Time is also yours." — Cristiano Ronaldo
