Nigerian comedian DeeOne has publicly cautioned Inspector General of Police, IGP Tunji Disu, against issuing statements restricting citizens from video recording police officers on duty, warning that such directives could spark public unrest and trigger another #EndSARS protest.
Reacting to comments by the IGP suggesting that public recording demoralizes officers, DeeOne emphasized in an Instagram video that recording police interactions serves as a vital protective measure for citizens against extortion and harassment.
He argued that public video evidence remains crucial given that many officers lack body-worn cameras.
While commending the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) for calling the police chief to order, DeeOne urged the IGP to focus on fostering harmony between the police force and the public rather than defending misconduct.
