The global technology space and consumer electronics forums are abuzz following leaked performance benchmark logs on Geekbench detailing Samsung’s upcoming entry-level smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy A18 4G.
Spotted under model numbers SM-A185G and SM-A185F, the database entries reveal a fascinating technical compromise from the South Korean tech giant.
The benchmark scores—recording approximately 744 points in single-core CPU tests and 2,064 points in multi-core performance—confirm that Samsung is equipping the new A18 4G with MediaTek's Helio G99 (MT6789) processor.
Tech analysts quickly noted that this is the exact same 6nm chip used in last year’s Galaxy A17 4G, meaning the new generation will offer virtually identical raw computing power to its predecessor.
Industry experts explain that Samsung’s decision to reuse a recycled processor architecture—featuring two Cortex-A76 performance cores clocked at 2.2 GHz and six Cortex-A55 efficiency cores at 2.0 GHz alongside a Mali-G57 MC2 GPU—is a direct response to global semiconductor inflation.
With component supply costs and RAM manufacturing prices surging worldwide, reusing stable, low-cost silicon allows Samsung to maintain an affordable price point for budget buyers without sacrificing build quality.
The leaked benchmark test unit was configured with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of base internal storage, reaffirming that 4GB remains the entry-level baseline for cost-conscious smartphone markets across Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
However, what truly caught tech enthusiasts off guard was the software profile revealed in the Geekbench logs. Despite utilizing legacy processing hardware, the Galaxy A18 test unit was actively running Android 17 topped with Samsung’s next-generation One UI 9 firmware right out of the box.
This indicates that the Galaxy A18 will skip older software iterations completely and launch with Samsung's latest user interface, bringing flagship software features, updated security protocols, and refined UI animations to a budget chassis.
Additionally, analysts anticipate that Samsung will extend its industry-leading software commitment to the device, potentially offering up to six major Android OS updates. The device is expected to launch alongside a distinct 5G variant in late autumn.
