The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is making major national news across Nigeria’s education and governance sectors following a dramatic operational turnaround led by its newly appointed Registrar, Prof. Segun Aina.
In an unprecedented move, the examination chief personally intervened to clear and resolve over 5,000 long-standing candidate complaints within a five-day window.
The sudden operational push was triggered when Prof. Aina took the bold step of physically relocating his executive office operations directly into the Board’s SERVICOM Unit (Service Compact with All Nigerians).
His goal was to observe candidate queues, analyze system logs first-hand, and personally monitor how desk officers addressed unresolved operational bottlenecks that had previously frustrated thousands of UTME and Direct Entry candidates nationwide.
The massive clearance exercise tackled severe technical and administrative errors. The cleared backlogs primarily involved candidates who suffered profile code generation failures because they no longer had access to the original phone numbers used for initial registration.
Other major resolutions centered on genuine cases of biometric verification failures that occurred during the UTME registration and examination phases, preventing candidate validation. Furthermore, the intervention cleared severe profile discrepancies on the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS).
These included candidates whose SIM cards were lost or damaged, applicants who converted their applications from Direct Entry to UTME, and tertiary institution graduates whose names were missing from the National Matriculation List.
The exercise also addressed technical payment glitches, incorrect e-PIN generations, exam venue allocation complaints, and candidate data correction requests for dates of birth, names, states, and local government areas of origin.
According to a formal statement released by Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB's Acting Director of Public Affairs and Protocol, this high-impact administrative intervention directly fulfills the second pillar of Prof. Aina’s newly outlined institutional blueprint, termed "Service at Heart".
The policy aims to leverage direct leadership oversight and transparent communication to ensure that candidates receive service efficiency proportionate to the fees they pay.
By demanding that desk officers handle all incoming candidate grievances holistically rather than using piecemeal delays, the new leadership intends to permanently eliminate bureaucratic bottlenecks across all state and zonal offices.
