Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested Joseph Cyril, a 30-year-old Italy-based businessman, at Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu.
Cyril was intercepted in the departure hall while attempting to board an Ethiopian Airlines flight to Europe after ingesting 98 wraps of cocaine weighing 1.510 kilograms.
According to NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy Femi Babafemi, Cyril ingested the illicit consignment at a hotel in Awka, Anambra State, after agreeing to traffic the drugs for 3,500 Euros to fund a family relocation to Germany.
The suspect was placed under excretion observation, during which he expelled all 98 ingested wraps.
In concurrent operations across the country, NDLEA officers intercepted cocaine concealed inside phone chargers bound for Saudi Arabia, false-bottom backpacks destined for Italy, and cannabis-infused gummies inside a 40-foot container at Tincan Port Complex in Lagos.
Raids in Ondo, Oyo, Edo, Abia, and Lagos states also led to the recovery of tons of skunk and synthetic cannabis strains.
"The suspect subsequently was placed under excretion observation, during which he expelled the 98 wraps of cocaine weighing 1.510 kilogrammes." — Femi Babafemi, NDLEA Spokesperson
