The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has delivered a sharp response to Governor Seyi Makinde following his recent public criticism of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s national economic reforms.
The political friction flared up after Governor Makinde, speaking through a representative during an Allied People’s Movement (APM) candidate unveiling event in Abeokuta, characterized President Tinubu's economic policy direction as ill-motivated and expressed his intention to challenge the ruling party's hold on the Presidency in 2027.
In a formal statement issued by Oyo APC Publicity Secretary Olawale Sadare, the ruling party claimed that Nigerians were fortunate not to have elected Makinde as president in 2023, asserting that the governor's track record suggests he would have sold off public national assets under severe economic pressures.

The party defended President Tinubu’s administration, arguing that bold policy changes averted a total economic collapse and earned commendations from reputable global institutions.
The APC further highlighted that Oyo State and its 33 local government councils have benefited significantly from enhanced federal monthly allocations under the current federal administration.
The party criticized Makinde's governance record in Oyo State, alleging a lack of proportional infrastructure development, job creation, and security improvements despite increased financial inflows.
The APC concluded by ruling out any possibility of voters entrusting the governor with national executive leadership in 2027.
