Four members of Uganda’s boxing delegation at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow have gone missing after intentionally breaking away from their national team ahead of their scheduled departure flight.
The athletes failed to report to the delegation’s departure point on Tuesday, prompting Police Scotland, security officials, and UK immigration authorities to launch an investigation to determine their current location. Local reports indicate that the quartet formed two-thirds of Uganda’s six-member boxing contingent that competed at the international sporting event.
The missing boxers have been identified as Angel Katushabe, Nuhu Batte, Ibrahim Khemis, and Emily Nakalema. Speaking anonymously to Ugandan media outlet NBS Sport, one of the missing athletes confirmed that the decision to remain in Scotland was deliberate.

The boxer disclosed that the group intends to formally apply for asylum in the United Kingdom, citing a search for superior athletic training infrastructure, better facilities, and enhanced career opportunities that they felt were unavailable to them in their home country.
Authorities in the UK have initiated official security protocols following the reported disappearances. Police Scotland confirmed early engagement with the Home Office to assess the situation, while Commonwealth Games Chief Executive Phil Batty noted that organizers maintain rigorous operational cooperation with Border Force and UK Visas and Immigration to ensure regulatory compliance.
The Home Office emphasized that appropriate legal action will be taken should any breach of national immigration laws be established.
