Nigeria's First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has strongly appealed to citizens across the federation to register and obtain their National Identity Number (NIN), asserting that accurate, verifiable population data is absolutely critical to effective national planning and the structured delivery of essential public infrastructure.
She made the call in an official public message issued on Saturday, July 11, to commemorate the 2026 World Population Day.
The First Lady emphasized that as the country's population continues to experience steady demographic growth, deliberate investments must be channeled into expanding access to premium healthcare, quality education, and professional opportunities that allow citizens to unlock their maximum potential.
She stated that Nigeria's rising demographic figures represent a phenomenal economic opportunity that can only be successfully harnessed by prioritizing human capital indices.
“Today, on World Population Day 2026, I join the global community in support of our commitment to building a future where every individual, especially women and young people, have access to quality healthcare, education, and opportunities to reach their full potential,” the First Lady remarked.
Urging remaining unregistered individuals to enroll in the national identity database without further delay, she explained that accurate census figures remain the primary framework required by the government to effectively budget for public welfare projects.
