Bittersweet Homecoming: Abducted Oyo Schoolchildren and Teachers Reunited as Governor Makinde Mourns Fallen Heroes
In a highly emotional state broadcast on Arise News, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde announced the safe return and family reunification of the schoolchildren and teachers kidnapped from the Haro Erin and Yawata communities in the Olorunsogo Local Government Area. The hostages, who spent weeks in captivity following a traumatic mass abduction, were freed after a coordinated rescue operation.
While celebrating their safe return, Governor Makinde emphasized that the state's collective relief is deeply scarred by the tragic loss of lives. He paid solemn tribute to the civilian educators and security personnel who were brutally murdered during the initial raid, while in captivity, or during the subsequent rescue efforts.
The Human Toll: Honoring the Victims and Fallen Rescuers
Governor Makinde listed the names of the citizens and security agents who lost their lives to the terrorists, promising that their ultimate sacrifice would never be forgotten by Oyo State.
The Murdered Educators
Mr. Joel Adeyemi: A dedicated school teacher shot and killed on-site within the school premises on the day of the abduction.
Deacon John Ola: An educator who succumbed to the harsh conditions and died while being held hostage in captivity.
Mr. Michael Oyedokun: A teacher whose brutal execution by the terrorists was captured in a widely circulated propaganda video.
The Fallen Security and Rescue Personnel
A joint task force consisting of military personnel, local hunters, and members of the state's security network paid the ultimate price to secure the freedom of the children:
